SanTan Honda is proud to report that two of our Chandler, Arizona, Honda models received a Residual Value Award from ALG: the 2012 Odyssey minivan and 2012 Fit sub-compact.

Both models were also recently named “2011 Best Cars for the Money” by U.S. News & World Report.

ALG’s annual Residual Value Awards honor the vehicles in each industry segment that are predicted to retain the highest percentage of their original price after a three-year period.

The Honda Odyssey prevailed in the Best Minivan (MPV) category retaining its top spot from last year. The Fit was the winner, for the fourth consecutive year, in the increasingly competitive Sub-Compact Car category. Since 2001, the Honda brand has earned 24 model awards and six overall brand awards from ALG.

“We are delighted to receive two Residual Value Awards from ALG for the Fit and the Odyssey,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda. “From the smallest to the largest, Honda vehicles are designed to provide class-leading quality, feature content and value to our customers.”

ALG is the leading provider of residual value information to the automotive industry, and determines the award winners through careful study of the competition in each segment, historical vehicle performance and industry trends. Vehicle quality, production levels relative to demand, as well as pricing strategies are among the key factors that affect ALG’s residual value forecasts.

For many people, a family car is the car you have to buy, not the car you actually want.

Or so say the auto editors at U.S. News & World Report. That’s usually the case when it comes to buying a family car, but Honda has figured out how to make family cars that ditch the mom-mobile persona yet still retain the qualities that make family life easier.

Four Honda models earned five awards on U.S. News’ “2011 Best Cars for Families” list, proving Honda is still the best at providing family enjoyment. Taking top honors for Honda were:

Honda Fit for Best Subcompact Car for Families and Best Hatchback for Families

“For a small car that doesn’t skimp on cargo space, look no further than the Honda Fit. This affordable hatchback is the Best Subcompact Car for Families and Best Hatchback for Families because it can seat five comfortably and has what reviewers call one of the most innovative storage systems on the market. Its standard Magic Seat has four modes (people, long, tall and utility) and lets you haul a bike, surf board or store up to 57.3 cubic feet of cargo for those occasional trips to IKEA.”

Honda Civic for Best Compact Car for Families

“The Honda Civic made its American debut in 1973, and since then, it’s become an icon. Most consumers have heard of or seen this affordable small car. The Civic earns its popularity from its top safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and above-average predicted reliability ratings from J.D. Power and Associates.”

Honda CR-V for Best Affordable Compact SUV for Families

“The Honda CR-V is dependable and popular, just like the Honda Civic, but unlike the Civic, it has all sorts of doodads that simplify parenthood. Inside, you’ll find an under-seat storage bin, a retractable center tray table for snack time, eight cup holders and door pockets for tucking away wet wipes for when Junior spills his apple juice. The only thing the CR-V doesn’t have is a rear-seat DVD entertainment system. Honda left that to the Honda Pilot.”

Honda Odyssey for Best Minivan for Families

“We all know the stereotypes associated with minivans, but parents have been investing in the Honda Odyssey for more than a decade, so it must have a lot going for it. The Odyssey boasts fuel economy ratings topped by few midsize SUVs, an IIHS Top Safety Pick award, seats for eight people and an impressive 38.4 cubic feet behind its rear seats. The Odyssey does all this while keeping passengers entertained with an optional split-screen rear-seat DVD entertainment system.”

SanTan Honda Report: New Photos & Details of Honda Fit EV Concept Revealed

September 20, 2011 by , under Honda Fit, Honda Models.

Honda used the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show to debut some of its green-machine prototypes, most notably its battery/electric motor-powered Fit EV Concept, which is set to go on sale in 2012.

Honda Fit EV interiorThe Honda Fit EV Concept (still awaiting a proper name) will utilize the same five-passenger layout found in the popular Honda Fit, but will be better equipped to meet the daily driving needs of the average commuter by offering an impressive 100-mile driving range per charge.

The 2012 Honda Fit EV will be powered by a lithium-ion battery and coaxial electric motor derived from the unit found in the FCX Clarity fuel cell car, which is efficient and powerful while remaining quiet at highway speeds, according Honda. The Honda EV Concept will have a top speed of 90 mph.

Honda EV Concept modesHonda says the estimated 100-mile driving range of the Fit EV Concept can be maximized by using the innovative three-mode electrical drive system adapted from the Honda CR-Z. The system allows the driver to select between ECON, NORMAL, and SPORT to instantly and seamlessly change the driving experience to maximize efficiency or improve acceleration.

The 3-mode electric drive system uses the same principle as the 3-mode drive system in the CR-Z hybrid, which allows drivers to optimize the vehicle for their preferences or traffic conditions. While in ECON mode, practical driving range can increase by as much as 17 percent, compared to driving in NORMAL mode, and up to 25 percent compared to driving in SPORT mode. Acceleration improves significantly when in SPORT mode, generating performance similar to a vehicle equipped with a 2.0-litre petrol engine.

Photo: Honda Fit EVHonda says the Fit EV Concept will also allow the driver to stay connected through a smartphone and personal computer, or the Honda-exclusive interactive remote, while away from the vehicle. The pocket-friendly, interactive remote provides connectivity to the vehicle without the need for an internet connection or mobile phone signal. Through the connectivity system, drivers will be able to remotely view the vehicle’s state of charge, initiate charging and activate the air conditioning, even while connected to the grid, to reduce the drain on the battery at start-up. The mobile application and website also offers the ability to set charging notifications and alerts to optimize utility rates, and provides 24-hour roadside assistance, along with a public charging station locator.

There’s still no word on pricing or the on-sale date for the Honda Fit EV Concept, but Honda says the Electric Fit is set to hit U.S. dealership in 2012.

Be the first to know when the Honda Fit EV Concept will be available in Arizona by contacting our SanTan Honda Phoenix dealership.

2011 Honda Fit Named “Top 10 Back-to-School Cars” by Kelley Blue Book

Choosing a car for yourself is one thing, but when it comes to buying a car for your child it becomes a far more important decision.

Deciding which vehicle is the right back-to-school car for your child is a critical one – it must be safe, affordable and reliable, and it would be nice if it were fuel-efficient, fun-to-drive and good-looking, too. Thankfully, the editors at Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com did the research for you and came up with the Top 10 Back-to-School Cars for 2011. Number 2 on the list? The ultra-cool 2011 Honda Fit.

Vehicles on kbb.com’s 2011 Top 10 Back-to-School Cars list were chosen with the following criteria in mind: safety, affordability, versatility, reliability, cost of ownership and fuel efficiency, along with the ever-subjective ‘fun-to-drive’ and ‘good-looking’ factors. Each new car on the list is available for $18,000 or less, using Kelley Blue Book’s exclusive Fair Purchase Price as the yardstick.

The 2011 Honda Fit — available at SanTan Honda in Chandler, Arizona — ranked #2 out of the 10 best new back-to-school cars for 2011. The #2 ranking is not surprising, considering it was also named one of the “10 Coolest Cars Under $18,000” by kbb.com and has been named one of Car and Driver Magazine’s “10Best Cars” for five years in a row.

Here’s what the editors at kbb.com had to say about the 2011 Honda Fit in their Top 10 Back-to-School Car ranking:

“Playful and nimble in both its look and road manners, the 2011 Honda Fit is a wicked-smart choice for either the college-bound undergrad or his empty-nesting parents (or both). Tardis-small on the outside and Tardis-big on the inside, the Honda Fit is a four-door hatchback that can carry four surprisingly comfortable adults in subcompact style. What the four-cylinder engine may lack in whoomph, it makes up for in mpg: 27 city/33 highway.”

You can check out the fuel-efficient, affordable and fun-to-drive Honda Fit at SanTan Honda – the top Arizona Honda dealer serving Chandler, Phoenix, Mesa and Tempe. Stop by SanTan Honda today to test drive the 2011 Fit or one of our other student-friendly Honda models.

7 Honda Models Earn J.D. Power & Associates’ Top IQS Awards for 2011

July 5, 2011 by , under Honda Accord, Honda Accord Crosstour, Honda Civic, Honda Element, Honda Fit, Honda Insight, Honda Models, Honda Ridgeline, Honda Technology.

2011 Accord

Honda has just earned its best-ever ranking in J.D. Power and Associates’ Initial Quality Study (IQS) for 2011, finishing highest among non-premium brand and second among all surveyed brands, including top premium brands like Mercedes, BMW and Jaguar. So what does this mean for buyers like you?

It means that when you buy a new Honda, you’re buying one of the highest-quality manufactured and designed vehicles in the world. In fact, Honda’s newest U.S. auto plant in Greensburg, Indiana – which produces the Civic Sedan – was one of only three plants around the world to earn the Platinum Quality Award.

Honda received seven Initial Quality awards this year, the highest number of awards that Honda has ever earned in IQS. Among the top performers are the Honda Fit, Honda Civic, Honda Insight, Honda Element, Honda Accord, Honda Ridgeline and Honda Accord Crosstour.

2011 J.D. Power and Associates’ IQS Awards

Honda led the industry by receiving seven awards in J.D. Power and Associates’ IQS for 2011. Here’s how the Honda models ranked, and why.

Sub-Compact Car: 2011 Honda Fit

The Honda Fit is a subcompact 5-door hatchback that first debuted in the US in 2007. The Fit is equipped with a standard 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with a choice of 5-speed transmissions. Honda offers the Fit with a navigation system and vehicle stability control—unique in the subcompact segment.

Compact Car: 2011 Honda Civic (tie)

Honda offers the Civic in nearly 20 different variants, including models with gasoline, hybrid and natural gas engines. All models are front-wheel drive with 4-cylinder engines and manual or automatic transmission options. Currently in its eighth generation, the Honda Civic is unchanged for 2011.

Compact Car: 2011 Honda Insight (tie)

The Honda Insight is a hybrid-electric vehicle that uses a small, gas-powered 4-cylinder engine with an electric motor for boost. In 2010, Honda introduced an all-new model with a more mainstream design than the previous iteration. For 2011, Honda revised the suspension tuning and improved cabin appointments.

Midsize Car: 2011 Honda Accord

The Honda Accord is one of the automaker’s longest-running nameplates, and one of its highest-selling models. The Accord lineup includes midsize sedans and coupes—all of which are front-wheel drive. In addition to a freshened front bumper, grille and tail lights, many of the trim levels feature new equipment for 2011.

Compact Crossover SUV: 2011 Honda Element

Designed for 4 passengers, the Honda Element is a compact crossover 4-door built on a modified Honda CR-V platform. Targeted at young and active buyers, the Element features an interior that is stain-resistant, seats that are highly configurable, wide-opening doors, and a clamshell tailgate.

Midsize Crossover SUV: 2011 Honda Accord Crosstour

The 5-door Honda Crosstour is based on the Accord platform and shares many of that model’s mechanicals—including its standard 3.5-liter, 271-horsepower 6-cylinder engine. The Accord Crosstour is offered with front-wheel drive on the standard models and all-wheel drive on its highest trim level.

Midsize Pickup: 2011 Honda Ridgeline

Unlike traditional pickup trucks, the Ridgeline is only offered in one 4-door body style with a short pickup bed on a unibody platform. The Ridgeline is offered with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine with standard all-wheel drive that is designed for traction in inclement weather, rather than intensive off-road use.

2011 Honda Fit is Fuel-Efficient, Fun-to-Drive Compact

June 2, 2011 by , under Honda Fit.

2011 Honda FitHave you met the new Honda Fit yet?

This versatile, fun-to-drive and fuel-efficient model has been named one of Car and Driver magazine’s “10Best Cars” for five years in a row – each of the five years it’s been on sale in the United States.

The five-time returning champion boasts 33 mpg, edgy styling and a deceivingly spacious interior with hidden storage areas. The 2011 Honda Fit also hits 60 mph in 8.3 seconds — nearly 2 seconds faster than its closest competitor — and has an available automatic transmission with paddle shifters to make zipping through traffic even more fun.

According to the editors at Car and Driver:

“We’re equally zinged by this Honda’s upscale interior, its quick and precise steering, an engaging shifter, spot-on ergonomics, a windshield as big as a minivan’s, and a rear seat that is both adult-habitable and drops to the floor faster than a Marine pumping push-ups…the Fit offers a fun-to-drive quotient that proves basic transportation isn’t always basic.”

Six airbags, the new high-rigidity ACE body structure and Vehicle Stability Assist are just some of the superb safety features Honda adds to the 2011 Fit.

You can check out the 2011 Honda Fit and other popular Honda models like the brand-new 2012 Civic at SanTan Honda. Our Chandler, Arizona Honda dealership not only features the largest selection of new and used Honda models, but is also the most state-of-the-art Honda dealership in the Southwest.
